Reports To: Shift Manager/In-Charge Plant Operations

Location: Karachi, Pakistan

Job Purpose & Responsibilities

The DCS Controller is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of various units (crude distillation, hydrotreater, platformer, and isomerization) via the Distributed Control System (DCS). Key responsibilities include:

• Process Control: Continuous monitoring of critical process parameters to maintain stable plant performance within defined limits.
• Safety Operations: Supporting the Shift Manager in executing safe plant start-ups, normal shutdowns, and emergency shutdowns (ESD).
• Incident Management: Effective alarm monitoring and timely response to abnormal conditions, plant trips, and interlock activations.
• Data & Optimization: Accurate recording of operational data, coordinating with the technical team for test runs, and tracking fuel consumption for energy optimization.
• Maintenance Coordination: Ensuring close coordination with maintenance teams and strict compliance with the Permit to Work (PTW) system.

Requirements & Competencies

Education & Experience

• Education: DAE (Chemical).
• Experience: Minimum 8 years of relevant experience.
• Specialized Experience: At least 3 years as a DCS Boardman in a refinery. Experience in petrochemical or fertilizer plants may also be considered.

Competencies

• Technical: DCS operation, process parameter monitoring, emergency handling (upsets/ESD), alarm management, and PTW systems.
• Non-Technical: Computer proficiency, teamwork, problem-solving, decision-making, and a strong commitment to safety.
